Spring Cleanup

Our major spring cleaning usually starts as soon as I can safely remove the snow plow from my truck the first week April.
I will go to your home with one or two respectable looking helpers. That look is important to me.

Here are some of the work we can do for you with our spring cleaning:

  • Will use a combination of manual raking and power blowing your lawn to get it ready for healthy spring growth, and your first cut.
  • We have a great Power-Raker we can use as well to have your lawn ready for spring lawn fertilizer and a spring overseeding.
  • Will remove any leaves left over from the fall.
  • Cut down all your old perennial and hostas, minding not to step over any of the new spring buds.
  • Cleaning up your flower beds from the last of your neighbour’s leaves that blew over your fence.
  • Add a crisp new edge to your flower beds with our edgers and we will start at one end of your English Garden and work right around.
  • We can possibly turn over the soil if you wish (not the easiest of all our tasks).
  • Remove or thin out any overgrown perennials or dig out any dead shrubs along with the roots.
  • Our service will cleanup all the mess with care taken to not step over all your new spring flowers in the process.
  • We will collect all debris in yard waste bags and ensure they get out to the road for yard waste pickup, or to the dump.
  •

If you are looking for us to do a spring cleaning task that I have not mentioned above, we can discuss doing it. Our average spring cleaning takes 2-4 hours depending on how much work was done in the fall.

So e-mail me and I can go over and give you a quote. As long as you live in our service area.

Fall Cleanup

Fall is a great time to cut down your hostas, perennials and tall grass. We can usually get this done in the early part of November before the leaves have all fallen. Nice big job to get finished before we concentrate on dragging all your leaves to the road for pickup.

Cutting Hostas & Perennials

We have years of experience and are knowledgeable about which plants need to be cut and which do not. As I will mention further on, we do not wait till spring to cut your hostas and perennials.

I feel very strongly about getting the hostas, perennials and tall grass cut down in the fall. If you wait till spring the new fresh sprouting buds may get trampled on if you do not happen to get your spring cleanup done early enough. It does not take long for a hostas bud to shoot up 2 or 3 inches during a few days of warm weather. So get all your perennials and hostas cut down in the fall and you will avoid having them stepped on in the spring.

With all cut down neatly it also looks nicer over the winter and early spring.

The tall grass may look nice a few times over the winter but by spring it is blowing all over your yard in a big mess. If you do not get it cut early enough in the spring you can possibly cut off the pointy tips of any new grass growing through the old growth. I have seen this happen.

If all this work is done in the fall there is no need to rush your spring cleaning or panic if your gardeners are late showing up.

The money you think you are saving in the fall is not worth the trouble you will have in the spring. We do not want to be the workers apologizing in the spring for stepping all over the new early buds.

Timing for Leaf Cleanup

Everyone’s leaves seem to fall at different times, some from mid October to 1st or even 2nd week of December.
Beech, Oak and certain types of Maples are common trees that fall late. Those falling in late October and November are able to be mulched up with the weekly lawn cutting.

The big problems lie in dealing with the trees like Beech, Oak and certain Maples trees that fall late and can be hard to manage and get rid of. Rest assured however, and we give you our word that your leaves will get taken care of even if the last leaf is the 2nd week of December. Happens to at least one customer each year.

After Last Leaf Pickup

In many neighborhoods the leaf removal trucks are done before the last leaves fall. So I bag them up and take them to the Peel Dump on Mavis Rd. There may be a small premium cost to cover cost of the bags and extra time to fill the bags and take them to the dump, but nothing much.

I work in neighborhoods that I feel can afford the premium service we like to provide. Because a great job is an accomplishment to be proud of.

The photo above shows us dropping off a trailer full after the leaf removal trucks had completed their final fall pickup for the season. Rest assured we have all the necessary equipment to do a great job. Don’t stress it, or be concerned, we will get it done. We always do.

We are always working till the first or second week Dec.

There are many years we are driving up to the dump every day after the trucks have gone with full loads. So relax and let us handle it for you. We charge one amount for the entire fall season and come around as many times as we need to in November and December to collect all your leaves.

I work it that we are most peoples house every week to deal with what we can.

Yard Cleanup – Anytime

We also cleanup many yards between our spring and fall cleanups. We get called when people move into a new house where much work is required to those getting their house ready to put on the market for sale.

Over the years customers will call when they realize that the yard work is out of hand for whatever personal reasons and they need help.
Let me give you a quote and get your yard cleaned up.

If you are thinking of selling, my 9 years of full time Real Estate in Mississauga can come in handy as I have been there and can make sure your yard looks its best for a new homeowner. Simple designed yards may be best as many new home owners want less work to do not more as they are working hard to pay their new mortgage and possibly have a young family to take care of. They will not have time for flowers and gardening for a few years.

So when it comes time to clean up the yard for sale. Less not more is the way to go!
